Roro Jonggrang

Roro Jonggrang is a Javanese legend about a princess who cleverly escapes a forced marriage. Prince Bandung Bondowoso wants to marry her, but she sets an impossible condition: he must build 1,000 temples in one night. With the help of spirits, he nearly succeeds—until Roro tricks him by making the roosters crow early, making it seem like morning. Only 999 temples are finished, and in anger, Bandung curses her into becoming the 1,000th statue—forever standing in the Prambanan temple.
